Ian Hirst visits Old Hough Fishery to prove how effective the method feeder can be when targeting big carp and that its definitely more than just a match tac
Personally I would not use pellets on a Method feeder. Too unreliable as regards staying on when the feeder hits the water. I drill my 8mm pellets with a 1.8mm bit and pull a band through with a home made hook. My go to line for hooklength is 0.17 Reflo that I asm informed is probably 0.19, 7 3/4lb BS.
Safety first. Try to cast a medium or large feeder or bomb a long way with just 5lb or 6lb line on your reel and you’ll run the risk of the line breaking or, at best, you’ll make a feeble, tentative cast. The answer is to use a shockleader. In layman’s terms, this is a length of stronger line to cast off, running from your feeder down to

In the main I use a home made mix that works well for me based on dry fish flavour catfood and brown crumb. Of course bait companies will try and sell you a specialist "Method Mix" and try and convince you that only this can be used on the Method feeder. At the end of the day use what you want and have confidence in. Thread a long stringer needle right through your feeder and grab the elastic with the hook. Just pull the elastic through until the ring reaches the tube of the feeder. Thread the loose end down from the top and through the plastic loop at the top of the feeder. Clamp it to one side of the plastic loop using another half-turn tuck. For the best hook baits for method feeder fishing, luncheon meat comes high up on the list. As it sits in the water, it releases a steady trail of aromatic oils that lead carp right to your doorstep. But, it can be tricky to keep on the hook. Cubed luncheon meat can be a real nuisance to cast and keep on the hook.wiM1.
